Carmichael Notches Another Top-10 For Ken Schrader Racing At Adirondack
“We had fifth and then we went back to seventh and I was like, ‘Dang!’ Two cars got by me when I got tangled up with Bryon Chew,” Carmichael said. “It was a good run for us, and I’m really happy with the finish.” Carmichael went about his task quietly at first, but more aggressively in the latter stages of the race. He started 20th after posting a qualifying lap of 105.758 mph. It was disappointing for the 15-time motorcycle champion to start towards the tail end of the field, but gave him even more determination to make it to the front. “This team is great we just need to work on our qualifying efforts,” said Carmichael. “A seventh place finish is great considering we started so far back – especially on a small track like this. When you start at the back of the field you’re more likely to get caught up in the trouble.” Carmichael wheeled the #4 Monster Energy Drink Chevrolet up to 16th at the drop of the green and maintained that spot before the first caution, and eventual red flag, flew at lap 18 for a spin and rain showers. The field was back in action an hour later for a restart at lap 38. By the halfway mark, Carmichael was running just outside the top-10 in 12th place. He maintained that spot over the next 40 laps before progressing through the field again. By lap 114, he was running seventh, and by lap 119 he was fifth. Carmichael was ready when the green dropped for a restart at lap 136, but trouble lied just ahead. In a battle for fourth, Carmichael tangled with Bryon Chew in turns one and two. “I got into him in turn four because I overdrove it. I thought (Jeffrey) Earnhardt was going to hit me. That was my fault, but when I did that it pushed us both up. I had some people get underneath me and knock me into him. I hate when that happens because I’m just here to do things. It was unfortunate,” explained Carmichael. Carmichael lined up seventh for the restart at lap 141 with little time to advance before the caution was out yet again. He would only have a green-white-checker to reclaim his top-five position. The green flew at lap 148, but on the last lap, a multi-car pileup broke out in turn four putting the field under caution immediately. The finish was locked in and Carmichael finished in seventh. “It was a great night,” said Carmichael. “We’ve been consistent and we’re getting the finishes that count.” For more information on Ricky Carmichael or Ken Schrader Racing, visit www.schraderracing.com. |
