Lavender Struggles At Lime Rock But Looks Forward To Mansfield

When the green flag dropped at the Lime Rock road course race in the NASCAR Camping World East Series, Jody Lavender knew he was in trouble. The car was an 8-year old car with an original 6-year old engine. It had been junked and stored in a dumpster and was not designed for a road course. The car was originally built for medium sized tracks and none of the changes made it any better.

When asked about the car after the race, Jody said, “We started with a junk car and we ended up with a junk car but it was the only car we had. We knew we couldn’t run up front but hoped we could finish in the top 15 or maybe the top 10 and stay in the top 10 in points.” He finished 23rd and dropped to 12th in the points.

Jody also said, “I really enjoyed driving the road course and had a lot of fun. But I could have had more fun if I’d had a ‘real’ road course car.”

The next race is at the Mansfield Ohio Speedway Saturday night and will be televised live on HDNET TV. It will also be replayed on Speedvision at a later date. Jody said, “Mansfield has always been one of my favorite tracks and we have run good there in the past. We have a good car ready to go and plan to be up front at the end. The JBR team also has a new car for us to run at New Hampshire and Dover. We were bad at Lime Rock but that’s in the past. We plan to be strong in the next four races.”
